Creative Industry Hub Talk

Join e+ architecture in conversation with the Manager of the Bendigo Creative Industry Hub (BCIH) to talk about the design and function of the proposed Hub. Visit the current warehouse space before the talk for a self-guided tour and view the architectural plans from e+architecture to learn more about the new BCIH. The Manager of BCIH will be on hand to talk through plans and answer questions.

The Bendigo Creative Industries Hub (BCIH) will transform the ground floor of the 1910 Morley and Johnson and Co furniture warehouse into bespoke co-working and event space to support Bendigo’s creative practitioners and entrepreneurs. An initiative of Creative Victoria and managed by ACMI, the BCIH is being designed by Bendigo practice e+ architecture to provide workspaces, meeting rooms, presentation and project spaces. Applying the latest thinking in agile workplace design to this new creative space in the heart of the city the BCIH will showcase the value of design in adapting existing infrastructure to meet Bendigo’s future needs for the creative economy.

The current building, Johnson Morely and Co warehouse, was designed by Keogh and Austen in the Romanesque revival style. The red brick Edwardian façade is echoed by neighbouring properties in the commercial and civic precinct at Mitchell Street, especially 31-33 Mitchell Street and Dentons Stores. Keogh and Austen applied a similar design aesthetic to the Lyric Theatre (1913) in High Street. The ground floor of the building retains the original pressed metal ceilings which are still visible and will be maintained as part of the new design for the BCIH.
