A Random Selection: Swanston Street from RMIT to Fed Sq

Swanston Street says Melbourne. A different street in the 1960s than in 2017, it’s always been home to important institutions and developments. This walk takes a random selection of exemplars, experiences and ways of seeing the city on and around this thoroughfare to share and explore. It will bring to light the way ordinary Melburnians and visitors, Melbourne influencers and developers have stepped up to the centre of Melbourne over the years.

Walk leader: Annie Bolitho. Annie is the city organiser for Jane’s Walk Melbourne. She facilitates walking conversations about the ideas, people and events that shape our city.

Jane’s Walk

Jane’s Walk sets out to inspire urban literacy and a community-based approach to city building. Citizen-led walking tours under the Jane’s Walk banner make space for anyone to observe, reflect, question and collectively reimagine the places where they live, work and play. The walks create the space for people to learn about aspects of their city, connect with strangers and share ideas. They highlight some of the challenges faced in major cities such as development, climate extremes and pressures on green space and also explore how people positively influence and change the cities they love.
